PRODUCT REVIEW : DYNOMAX SUPER TURBO EXHAUST 92-95 CIVIC By: Michael E. Bonk
Email: Honsi1994@purehonda.com
COST: $85.00
DISCPITION: I ordered the DYNOMAX exhaust from Jegs performance catalog online. The exhaust is the rear section only and is a direct replacement for the factory exhaust. The piping is 2¼ in and the muffler is a dynomax super turbo that is a straight through design. The exhaust and piping are made of aluminized steel. The kit came with all the necessary hardware to do the installation yourself. You can order the exhaust on Jegs web site www.jegs.com or by contacting jegs at 1-800-345-4545. Shipping took 3 days.
INSTALLATION: **** Installation was a breeze. Total time was about 45 minutes. That time would be cut in half if I had access to a lift. The exhaust fit perfectly in the factory mounts. Anyone with a set of metric wrenches will have no problem.
APPEARANCE:*** The 3 ½ in. tip does add to the appearance of the car but the fact that the exhaust isnt constructed of stainless steel hurts it in this category..
CONSTRUCTION:*** The exhaust itself looks very well made and sturdy. Again, the fact that its not stainless really hurts it. A plus is the fact that its a direct replacement for the factory exhaust.
SOUND:***** I give it a five in this category. The exhaust note is low and throaty. Its barely noticeable at idle and only adds to the sound of my engine at WOT instead of overpowering it.
PERFORMANCE: ????? I honestly dont know if the exhaust has any affect on the performance of the car. I feel a slight difference at the top of the power band every other part of it feels the same. I havent had the car dynoed either so for now I cant rate this category.
OVERALL:**** I was debating purchasing an exhaust for my car for a few months now. My main concern was the cost versus the actual benefit it would have on my car. I was looking at few cat back systems but was turned away by the prices. Most were about $400.00. Another option I was thinking about was just getting a universal muffler and having a local muffler shop install it. Even those can run up to $200.00. Then I found the dynomax system on Jegs site. The first thing that caught my attention was the price, only $85.00. Then I saw that it was a direct bolt in kit. That had me sold. I ordered it and received the exhaust 3 days later. I opened the box to make sure that all of the components were there. My first impression was good even though it wasnt stainless steel. I then went to install it. Installation was simple. I stepped back to look at the car from the back and was very pleased. The 3 ½ in. tip looked rather sporty. It looked as though it was made for the car. Next came the sound test. I started my car and again was very pleased. The only added sound at idle was a low growl. I took it for a test drive and found that it wasnt annoying or overpowering. I especially like the fact that I can still hear my vtec activate. The bottom line is that if your looking for an exhaust and you think it might be for you check it out. Its hard to go wrong with $85.00
