With the help of one
astute Purehonda.com member, London69
we looked into BQuiet and got some interesting facts and offers back. I
want to thank London69
for his post on BQuiet (in the Tech
Community), and turning me onto this fine product.
BQuiet was nice enough to send
us a half roll of there product to test
for you guys. And since, I both sell and use high end sound equipment, I
thought it would be nice to finally install some of this product into my car for the perfect audio
environment. I'll admit, I haven't use much sound deadener in my days, but the ones
that I have used were nothing to be overwhelmed about. I wanted this
system as clean as possible for competition so figured I'd go the
deadener route full bore. I'll be doing every panel!
The Product:
I got my BQuiet in a Kraft
paper covered roll. And at
only a half roll this stuff is heavy! I was surprised when I picked it
up. I fought with the mountain of packing tape to uncover my new
arrival. As I peeled back some of the paper I could see the
product...blue plastic smothered in black goo! I unrolled a small section after pulling it from it's paper delivery
wrap and looked it over intensely for a moment. Hmmmm...very cool!
It has a steel blue polyethylene
(plastic!) backing, embedded with black tar like material... the deadener! And that is covered by a shiny sided
brown paper cover/protector.
I was very impressed with the plastic backing.
Nice feel, soft and
flexible. This stuff will actually stretch to some
extent, helping fill even the most obscure places in your car. Also,
this stuff is soft! Granted it was 80 degrees out, but it was very
sticky and very pliable. I did a test the following day. The temp
dropped to 40 degrees overnight here in Ohio, and it had minimal effect on the elasticity of the BQuiet product!
The install:
I ran outside, happy like a
"pig in mud", throwing
open the hatch of my civic. I unrolled the BQuiet... what the?! It
was cut/damaged? No, it comes in 3 ft. or so squares of material rolled up into
one. Hmmm...that's nice. Not too big a piece to deal with.
I cut a small piece and dropped it in place. It nicely
formed to the most radical contour in my wheel well. No heat gun, just run your hand lightly over it and WALA!
It's done! Cutting it isn't'
that difficult either. I used scissors and with a little effort it
worked well. Just be sure to rub the goo off of them before giving them
back to your mother/wife! You can use a razor as well...but BE
CAREFUL!
The Verdict:
Like
I said, I haven't used much of this stuff in the past but I have used some. I had a little sheet of dynomat from years
ago. In comparison, BQuiet is softer, and easier to work with. The way
it holds up in the long run will have to be seen, but I'm sure it should
work well.
The only trouble I had, aside from the stuff sticking to itself, was
the BQuiet came up off the floor in spots of the wheel well....Now this
is probably my fault, as I had carpeting down before and couldn't' get
all the 'hairs' off of the steel, so will chalk that one up to me! But
it did hold VERY well on the bare steel parts I used it on.
Buying it:
Wade at Bquiet was kind enough
to set up an account for Purehonda members! He is extending a 20% off
special for Purehonda members and us only! They also have 1/2 rolls available, which would be
enough for the average stereo fanatic. For you diehards out there that want superior deadening, go the full roll! You'll use every bit of it!
You can go directly to Bquiet, they set up a seperate page for Purehonda.com.

Interview:
Wade was kind enough to answer some basic questions I had for him as
well. He turned out to be quite helpful.
1. When did Bquiet start?
Wade: "We've been providing affordable sound deadening solutions for over 2
years in western Canada. We started selling online in March of this year
to people around the world (majority of the sales are to North America)"
2. Why is it so much cheaper?
Wade: "Quite simply because we don't have the overhead that the larger
companies like Dynamic Control do. We sell direct to the consumer so all
levels of distribution are eliminated and the savings are passed on to the consumer."
3. What is BQuiet made of?
Wade: "It is an embossed polyethylene and rubberized SBS asphalt material."
4. How was the product tested for sound damping?
Wade: "It has been tested in various competition vehicles over the years
including the personal vehicles of some B-Quiet employees. We quite simply wouldn't sell a product that didn't work. We have done before and
after measurements with testing equipment (Audiocontrol 3050A RTA) and there's always an appreciable reduction."
If anyone has any questions about this product, feel free to contact
Wade and tell him your from Purehonda, or contact me.
Enjoy!
